Eastertide Greetings
As we continue to celebrate our risen Lord, let us remember that Easter is the foundation of our Christian faith. Jesus, the Son of God, fulfilled prophecy and through his death, has given the gift of eternal life in heaven to those who believe in his death and resurrection.
This is a free gift, given for everyone who hears the good news, receives it and believes. There is a task there for us. We have heard, we believe and have received this wonderful free gift, now we in turn are now encouraged to share this wonderful news with those around us.
We are all doing that. Our first outing this season, was a Church Visit to Coleford Baptist Church. We have had a CMA stand on their front doorstep for a good number of years during the Easter Monday Coleford Carnival of Transport. They have had a change of leadership, and this was an opportunity to introduce ourselves before we set up our stand.
The Church Visit on Palm Sunday was a huge success. They were wonderful hosts. There were bacon butties or a croissant and a cup of tea to welcome everyone before the service. During the service Colin led the prayers, Stewart talked about who we are as the CMA, and Alexandra gave the talk. The highlight of the visit was talking to the congregation after the service over more bacon butties!! I spoke with a lady who was 100 years old last July and had been preaching for 70 plus years. She is still going strong, as bright as a button with a keen sense of humour. I asked and received some priceless preaching tips from her.
The following week on the Easter Monday, we were joined by Bristol Branch. The stand was set up on the front step of the Church. As well as the usual Bibles and Tracts we had a model Harley which made an excellent conversation starter. The gazebo went up and sheltered us during the rain but the wind was too much. We slowly packed up the stand throughout the day for safety reasons.
We also took turns to clear tables in the Church Café. Our help was much appreciated especially when the rain sent the crowds indoors!! It may not seem like much, standing around talking to people, walking around the town enjoying the Carnival or clearing tables, however, we don’t know how our actions touch other people. No matter how we witness, whether it be in serving, in silence or companiable chat, it’s all for God and his glory.
Eastertide is a wonderful time celebrating our risen Lord. It is also the start of the Branch’s mission year. This year it feels like we are being blown by the Spirit to something new. We’ll let you know where He sends us.
